Social network connections and human health

Here's a 2-page, popular article on social networks and human health. They cite data and studies that demonstrate that obesity can "spread" between people in social networks.    The good news is that apparently happiness can also spread this way!      It is a fun, easy piece to read, and ponder how our forestry and conservation messages may spread between people in analogous ways!See More

A recently published study by Floress, Prokopy, and Allred (2011) in Society & Natural Resources examined the importance of social capital and social networks within three watershed groups in the Midwest.  The study found that by specifically targeting and incorporating well-connected individuals, the groups were able to capitalize on the resulting ‘bridging links’ to increase their resource access.…

Women in Woodlands – Nicole Strong provides a sneak peak into a great new project

Recently, a national group of researchers headed by Nicole Strong of Oregon State University Extension received a grant from the USDA Cooperative Extension Service to fund a project aimed at building a nationwide network focused on assisting women who own woodlands, and a curriculum for growing local peer-learning groups for women woodland owners, based on the successful Women Owning Woodlands Network in Oregon.  Below, Nicole answers some questions…
